Dan McMinimee has stepped down from his position as Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools and and Terry Elliott will serve as interim acting superintendent as the Board of Education goes through the superintendent search process.
A March 2 press release by Jeffco Public Schools states that as part of the transition to new leadership for the district, the Board oand McMinimee have agreed that he will step out of the role of superintendent effective immediately.
"The Board thanks Dan McMinimee for his service and commitment to Jeffco Public Schools and wishes him the best in his future endeavors,” said Board President Ron Mitchell.
McMinimee will remain with the district through the end of his contract term, but will not have day-to-day responsibility for the operation of Jeffco Public Schools. Instead, he will be available to the Board in an advisory capacity and will assist as needed in the transition to a new superintendent. At the Board meeting on March 9, the Board will take formal action on an agreement with McMinimee regarding his new role.
Elliott, who currently serves as chief school effectiveness officer, will serve as acting superintendent for day-to-day operations. Elliott is not a candidate for the superintendent position. The press release said that, along with Elliott’s professional experience and knowledge of the district, gives the Board confidence that he is the right person to guide the organization through this leadership transition.
“The Board is committed to working closely with Terry to have a smooth transition and provide the stability our organization needs,” Mitchell said. “It’s important we have continuity of leadership as we work with the community to find our next great leader who will fulfill our mission of providing a high-quality education for all Jeffco students.”
