A family decision

My wife Mary and I have been married for 22 years. Our daughter Karen is now a junior at the Colorado School of Mines studying environmental engineering.

We’ve lived in Wheat Ridge for about 4 1/2 years. I’m originally from Santa Fe, but my family and I lived in Oregon for about eight years before moving to Colorado. Karen was in high school at the time, but she knew she wanted to attend Mines, so as a family we decided to make the move.

From a dream to a book

Most people don’t know that I’m a published author. My book is called “Blanket of Deception.” It’s a fictional mystery novel, but it’s based on Native American lore.

The original story started from a dream I had, then I completed the story because I enjoy writing. In 2011, a good friend of mine encouraged me to get it published after he read it.

Helping others

Wheat Ridge is a town where I can be engaged and involved in the community. And it’s a great place where I can grow my business.

I’m a financial adviser with Eagle Strategies and New York Life. I help people with their financial health — insurance investments and making sure they have a financial plan to move through life.

Growing up, I saw a lot of people work very hard their whole life, but not have the income to retire with a lifestyle they want.

Financial management just struck a chord with me. I felt it was I was meant to do. Helping people be financially successful is my way of giving back to the community.

I’m the vice president on the board of Localworks, and I’m involved with the Wheat Ridge Business Association.

Being community-minded, I encourage everyone to get involved with their community. There are a lot of good things going on in our communities that, most of the time, people just need to be informed of and engaged with.
