About me

I’m 15 and I’ve lived my whole life in Golden. I’m an only child.

We have a baby grand piano at my house, and I would always play around on it when I was younger. Eventually, I started taking lessons. I’ve been playing for about seven or eight years now.

I think the piano is a very beautiful instrument, and there is a wide range of music you can play.

International Piano Competition

I was selected out of about 150 high schoolers from all over the world to compete in the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition. For the competition, I submitted a CD of 20 minutes of music from four composers — Chopin, Debussy, Rachmaninoff and Granados. I chose all Romantic Era pieces because I’ve always loved the music and the style of that period.

The first-place winners got a chance to perform at Carnegie Hall in May. I got an honorable mention.

I’ve done other piano competitions. One thing that makes this competition unique is that they’re looking for expressive play. To be expressive in your playing, it’s more of a talent.

I’m planning on entering again in 2019 — it will take me that long to get new pieces ready.

I like competing. There’s something about the nerve-wracking experience of it — I enjoy it.

Staying active, busy and healthy

I also play guitar. I’ve been in a couple of bands with the guitar. And I like art, especially drawing with charcoal and pastels. I’ve been in a couple of art shows. I’m also on the mountain bike team and lacrosse team at Golden High School.

I like to have something to do, and I like to be active and healthy. I think these help the overall brain function.

I’ve been interested in science ever since I was little. I’m really interested in chemistry and engineering. I’m thinking of pursuing these more in college.
