Letter to the Editor: Questions raised by teacher walkout

Posted

Now that Jeffco’s million dollar School Superintendent has declared April 26th a ‘’non-contact-day’ enabling District teachers to play hooky and head for the Capitol, should we not ask:

Should the School Board be compelled to address the misuse of this labor action by demanding a daily cap on ‘paid’ leave-day approvals when that contract comes up for midterm renegotiation?

By its silence doesn’t the School Board appear to approve of leaving students in the lurch?

Will students be deprived of either the contractually required number of instructional contact days or hours, or will they have to attend a makeup day tacked onto the end of the school year; ... and will teachers be paid extra for such a day?

What is the recourse of parents who must take time off from work for child care?
