The 2017 Ridge at 38 Criteriumbike race and Brewfest enjoyed mild weather on Sunday, June 11.
A section of 28th Avenue was closed off, between Teller and Reed Street, as bicyclists of all ages and skill levels spun around a fast 1.15 mile course with six winding corners. In the youth divisions, a single lap was used to determine the winner. In the adult divisions, the riders worked to complete as many laps as possible within a time limit. The top racers for the men’s and women’s elite divisions both had $1,000 prize purses.
Face painting, a bounce house, live music, vendor tents, food trucks, and a brewfest featuring many of the area’s best craft brewers provided ample non-cycling fun as well.
Patty Prevo of Wheat Ridge came down to the Criterium with her husband, two young childre, and even the family dog Bella.
“It’s got everything,” Prevo said. “The race, the beer, the kid’s activities...”
