Letter to the Editor: The JP stands alone

Mayor Sloan’s letter is informative on Golden’s participation in the WestConnect Coalition, planning transportation improvements from Kipling/C-470, through Golden, and up to Boulder via SH-93. When the coalition was formed the objective was to “complete the loop” of the Beltway through North Jeffco via the proposed Jefferson Parkway (JP) from SH-93 north of Golden to SH-128 and then to the NW Parkway.

As noted, improving SH-93 from Golden to Boulder is now the plan. CDOT and DRCOG declared the JP as a “stand alone” project that will receive no federal or state funds.

That has not kept the Jefferson Parkway Public Highway Authority from spending millions of taxpayer dollars on the project with no end in sight. The Jeffco Commissioners have continued to push for the JP for nine years. They should stop spending taxpayer money on the project and use it on other more cost-effective planned transportation improvements.
