While much is still up in the air, here is a look at the current status of several of Golden’s major summer events.
Taste of Golden
Date: April 30-May 9
Current Status: The traditional Taste of Golden is being replaced for this year with a new called Taste of Golden: On the Town. During the event, residents can load an app on their phone which will allow them to complete various challenges to earn points toward prizes. The purpose of this year’s event will be to drive traffic to Golden’s hard hit restaurants.
Date: June 5-Oct. 2
Current Status: The market is an essential event. It will occur with appropriate precautions in place.
The Golden Super Cruise
Date: Typically takes place the first Saturday of the month May-October.
Current Status: The website states that the Super Cruise is “suspended until public health guidelines change.”
The Golden Cruise
Date: Plans are in the works for one cruise a month to be held in June, July, August and September.
Current Status: Organizers have announced they are moving ahead with plans for the cruises to take place as long as COVID-19 conditions keep improving. They plan to announce more details and dates soon.
Golden Civic Foundation Summer Jam
Date: Thursday, June 24
Current Status: Organizers are planning to hold the event, but with a capacity that will be 30% lower than in 2019.
Lions Club Fourth of July
Date: July 4th
Current Status: Organizers are optimistic but will announce final plans 40 days before the event.
MOPAR Block Party
Date: The block party is typically held on the Thursday before the Dodge Mile Hi Nationals racing event at Bandimere Speedway. That event is scheduled for July 16-18. Current Status: Unknown; the Golden Transcript was unable to reach organizers to inquire about the event. However, members of Golden’s city council suggested earlier in the year that the city would not provide a permit for the event because of Bandimere’s repeated violations of public health orders last summer.
Golden Fine Arts Festival
Date: Scheduled for Aug. 21-22
Current Status: Organizer says it is too early to say. Final decision likely to be made six to eight weeks before event.
Golden Grand Fondo Bike Race
Date: Scheduled for August 29.
Current Status: The event’s website says organizers are intending to hold the race. However, it adds the following disclaimer: “In light of the rapidly-changing nature of public health policies, we are preparing a spectrum of ride formats for each event, ensuring we can hold anything from a mass start, traditional gran fondo to completely individual challenges. Based on guidelines from national and local health officials, we will present the event formats that align with community disease transmission risk.”
