Jeffco School Board members will soon be given the task of appointing a replacement to fill the seat of former member Ron Mitchell.
Mitchell stepped down from his elected position, effective Nov. 12. His term was to end at the end of 2021.
Certain qualifications must be met for candidates to be considered for the appointment. All applicants must have been registered to vote at general elections, a resident of the school district for 12 consecutive months prior to being appointed and a resident of director district 5 for the past 30 days. District 5 encompasses most of the schools in South Jeffco including the school areas around Columbine, Chatfield and Dakota Ridge High Schools. District 5 also covers a portion of the district to the west of C-470 in the Morrison area surrounding Red Rocks Park.
The notice calls for eligible candidates to submit a letter of interest, resume and full name and date of birth via email to Helen Neal, chief of staff for the Board and Superintendent at Helen.Neal@jeffco.k12.co.us on or before 8 a.m., Nov. 30.
In the letter of interest, applicants are asked to answer the following questions:
▪ Why are you interested in this position on the Board of Education?
▪ What experience and knowledge will you bring to the table to contribute to the Jeffco school board's work?
Applicants are asked to ensure the letter submitted includes an original signature. A background check will be conducted for candidates.
