Voters in Golden will be electing a new mayor and two city councilmembers this Nov. 5.
Golden’s city council consists of seven members — one mayor, one representative for each of Golden’s two districts and one representative for each of Golden’s four wards.
The seats up for election are the mayor and the two districts. The mayoral seat will be elected at-large. District 1 consists of Wards 1 and 2, and District 2 consists of Wards 3 and 4.
Here are the candidates:
Mayor
Don Cameron: currently serves on Golden’s Planning Commission and chaired the commission from 2015-16. He has lived in Golden since 1996, and is a retired career engineer as well as a retired physics/chemistry/earth science high school teacher.
Laura Weinberg: currently serves city council Ward 4, first elected to the seat in 2013 and won re-election in 2017. She has lived in Golden since 2007 and has a career in systems analysis, working for corporations and start-up businesses.
District 1
JJ Trout: is an active community member, currently serving on the city’s Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee and involved with the citizen’s group Golden United. She has lived in Golden for about 12 years and is the director of data and technology at PeopleForBikes.
Kim Brock: has served as the chair/executive director of the Golden Schools Foundation since 2013. She has lived in Golden for about 23 years and has had a career in strategic marketing and business communication, currently working as a freelance brand strategist/consultant.
District 2
Casey Brown: is running as an unopposed incumbent, first elected to represent District 2 in 2015. He has lived in Golden since 2004, and is employed as a career civil servant, working for the U.S. Government Accountability Office.
Golden city council candidate forum
The Leadership Golden Alumni Association is hosting a Candidate Forum at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 3 in city council chambers in Golden city hall, 911 10th St. It is expected to last about two hours. The event will be free and open to the public. For those unable to attend in person, the forum will be televised on Comcast Channel 8 (880 HD) live and replayed on this channel several times a week through Nov. 5, Election Day. It will also available on the city’s website at www.cityofgolden.net.
