Golden Chamber of Commerce honors outstanding businesses and members

Cassy Brooks, who received the Young Professional of the Year Award and works at Miller Coors, is “a new leader of the future,” said Brandon Narva, incoming chair of the Golden Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors. “Cassy is always going out of her way to make connections with local businesses.” Said Brooks: “I personally have found lifelong friends and a sense of belonging beyond myself.”

Manager Mike Helms of Woody’s Pizza, which opened in 1993 on Washington Avenue and employs more than 60 people, accepts the Business of the Year award from incoming board chairman Brandon Narva. “If you’re ever talking of one of the staples of Golden, you’ll often hear of Woody’s,” Narva said.

About 160 guests gathered for the Golden Chamber of Commerce annual awards dinner last week to share good news about business in the city. The Jan. 27 event at Fossil Trace Golf Club included a preview of the year ahead by chamber president Leslie Klane before the six awards were presented.

Winners for the 2015 awards were:

• Cassy Brooks, Golden Young Professional of the Year

• Brian Pike, Ambassador of the Year

• Connects Workspace, Civic Award

• Nancy Taylor Mason, Charlie O’Brien Volunteer Award

• Woody’s Pizza, Business of the Year

• Ken Kranz, Chairman’s Award

Before the dinner and presentations, members and guests milled and bought raffle tickets for a variety of items ranging from gift certificates to local restaurants to gift baskets. Money raised supports the chamber.

“We’ve been doing pretty well,” said Christina Estrada, manager at AlphaGraphics and a chamber ambassador.

And, the dinner, she said, “is a great way to recognize all the businesses.”
