Fort Lupton City Council may revise its imposed cap on the number of marijuana businesses it will allow in town.
Five businesses applied for four available business permits. City Clerk Mari Pena said a simple drawing (7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, in city council chambers) will determine which business won't get a permit.
During a Jan. 25 town hall meeting, the sentiment was to allow all five businesses to receive permits. One of the applicants said expanding the pool would increase tax revenue and promote more jobs.
"I'm in favor of raising the camp," said Colin Madden. "We thought Brighton and Frederick would allow these licensures. But those areas voted against it. It's something that can sustain all of us."
"I'm in favor of opening the applicants to not have one person left out," said John Paolella. "It's jobs. It's revenue."
Another applicant, Rachel Gillette, said the area can support all five businesses.
Council did not make a decision because it was in a town hall format, not in a regular meeting.
"We don't have everyone present," said Mayor Zo Stieber. "It's a small change to the ordinance. I think we might, at least, talk about it."
