Council unanimously approved an ordinance which would increase the maximum amount of fines for municipal violations from $1,000 to $2,650 due to a change in state statue. Municipal violations include but are not limited to; assault, theft, destruction of property, shoplifting, harassment and disorderly conduct. The penalty provision would also be applicable to traffic offenses. City attorney, Bill Hayashi stated that from his experience as a prosecutor, he doesn’t recall a judge imposing the maximum fine.
