The other candidate for Wheat Ridge City Council District 1 is David Kueter
Profession: Registered Nurse
City: Wheat Ridge
Why are you seeking this office?
Wheat Ridge needs to be run by citizen voices, not by developers or by special interest groups. I feel that City Council has not been listening to the citizens when their concerns have been addressed. The citizens I have visited with do not want Wheat Ridge to become another Highlands, Berkley, or Denver. I will represent the citizens and help their voices be heard on matters affecting their quality of life in their established neighborhoods.
What makes you the best person for the job?
I have been a homeowner in District 1 for 38 years. I am a Registered Nurse and have been an advocate for people my total career. I was on the Parks and Recreation Commission for one term. I have seen how the city operates. I am concerned that we are losing the uniqueness of Wheat Ridge. Wheat Ridge is selling its soul to developers and special interest groups. I will follow the money.
What are your top three priorities if elected?
1. Not rezoning and scraping of residential properties in established neighborhoods and preservation and restoration of older housing. 2. Regulation of short term rental properties such as Denver and Edgewater have adopted. 3. Fiscal responsibility of elected officials.
What is your view about what should happen regarding the Upham property rezoning?
Enough signatures were obtained for the issue to be placed on the ballot. It is now up to the voters. This issue can happen in any neighborhood and if it needs to go to the voters for the City to listen, then it must.
Which qualities would you most want to see in Wheat Ridge’s next police chief?
Experience and leadership. Open to communicate with the citizens regarding their concerns.
