Full-time student/gymnast
I am homeschooled at a gymnastics gym called Tigar. Tigar started as a co-op program, so we use Colorado Connections Academy — it’s an online homeschool program for kindergarten through your senior year of high school.
It’s an amazing school because it can accommodate my schooling needs and my gymnastics training. For example, I practice (gymnastics) from 7 a.m. to 11, then I go back to practice at 2:30 until 5:30 p.m. Colorado Connections Academy arranges my schedule so I can finish school on time, just like everyone else.
After high school, I want to attend the University of Utah. Their gymnastics program has been trying to recruit me since I was 9. I went to a gymnastics training camp sponsored by the school, and since then, that’s the school my heart has been set on.
About me
I’ve lived in Golden my whole life. I like the mountains, and I like going into downtown Golden and walking along Clear Creek.
I am 13 and I’m in the eighth grade. My favorite subject is either math or history because you get to learn a lot of different things.
I also like to do crafts — I make things out of duct tape. I make wallets a lot, and right now, I’m working on a little organizer made from a cardboard box and duct tape.
Artistic dance, powerful tumbling
I started mommy-and-me gymnastics classes when I was 2½. I liked them, but when I turned 5, I had to move to another gym with a competitive program so I could compete.
I started competing when I was 6. I’m now junior elite. At the level I’m at, I don’t compete as often as I used to. But this season, I’ll compete in Las Vegas, Texas, Chicago and California.
I compete in all of the events — vault, bars, beam and floor. My favorite is floor because I like to show off my artistic dance and powerful tumbling.
I like gymnastics — I get to see new places and make new friends from all over the U.S. at the competitions.
