False alarms on fire department actions
It is apparent that we have several people who have recently moved to the community who believe it is the taxpayers’ responsibility to pay to mitigate their property. This is not the case. The fire department has no ability to do any mitigation on private property. It would also cost approximately $8 million a year, perpetually. Where is the budget for this? That would essentially double the districts budget.
We need a new fire station 1. Anyone who visits the fire district’s website can see the clear and present justification for this. Not only is there asbestos in the old station, the bays are not large enough for the new trucks being built today and the road is being widened. The bumpers of the current fleet project past the white lines of Highway 73.
As far as water goes, we will never have enough, but that is not a reason to cut back on development. We have the water for new construction and increased density. We have a fire department who trains to bring a lot of water to any fire and obtain more by drafting or calling mutual aid.
I think these attacks seem to be a hidden agenda by politically motivated individuals. Their views should be disregarded by the public and fire district board and staff.
