Golden Police arrested Roger Allan Coderre June 17 on suspicion of attacking two transient men in Golden on June 12.

Coderre, 51, of Golden, is being held in the Jefferson County jail and faces felony assault charges.

The attack happened in the area of 14th and Jackson streets, near the Colorado School of Mines campus in Golden. A police department news release states the transient men who were attacked said they were assaulted with a blunt object as the assailant yelled comments such as “get out of my city/town.” The victims were injured from the attack, but their injuries were not life-threatening.

Surveillance videos placed an older black Nissan Pathfinder in the area of the crime. It was later spotted driving around in Golden. A patrol officer pulled over the vehicle for a minor traffic violation and the officer told Coderre the vehicle matched the description of the one in the video surveillance. The officer sought permission to ask a few questions, but Coderre refused and left the area, the release said.

In the morning of June 17, a call came in to the Golden Police tip line from an anonymous caller, but the call was suspicious in nature and detectives decided to investigate it further. It was discovered the call came from a middle school in a nearby city where Coderre was working as a construction contractor, the release stated.

Early in the investigation, police investigators linked the June 12 attack to another unsolved assault case that also happened in Golden in January.

Coderre's motive for the attacks is unclear and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
