Arvada Police Department detectives have arrested a 63-year-old man who they said is suspected in an assault case that occurred in Arvada in 2002.
According to a release from the APD, Brent W. Bloomquist is suspected of assaulting the victim, a woman who was then in her sixties, while she was walking home the night of May 31, 2002. The crime occurred in the area of 80th Avenue and Hoyt Street.
The victim filed a police report at the time and investigators collected DNA evidence from the scene, the release said.
“A DNA profile was developed and Detective Michael Roemer obtained a ‘John Doe’ warrant so the case would not be lost based on the statute of limitations,” the release said.
Investigators suspected Bloomquist based on evidence including a familial DNA profile created in partnership with United Data Connect, the release said.
Bloomquist was arrested July 1 on a warrant on suspicion of sex assault and kidnapping and was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
