The largest train show west of the Mississippi chugs into Denver in March as a treat for families and train enthusiasts. Presented by the Rocky Mountain Division of the Train Collectors Association, the Rocky Mountain Train Show is larger than ever, now covering more than three acres.
The two-day show will feature more than 20 operating train layouts of different scales and sizes, manufacturer and hobby store displays, face-painting for children and more than 600 tables of vendors selling trains, books, paints, scenery material and everything you might need to set up your own spectacular model train.
This show also will feature how-to clinics, Thomas the Tank Engine displays, a free train ride for kids, lots of Legos and door prizes with family fun for all. Union Pacific Heritage Operations senior manager Ed Dickens will give a presentation on the Union Pacific 4014 Big Boy steam locomotive.
The Rocky Mountain Train Show partners with several nonprofits in Colorado each year. This year, children from Big Brothers Big Sisters, Children's Hospital, Kenzi's Causes, the Kempe Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs and several other nonprofits will get to attend the show for free.
The Rocky Mountain Train Show is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 7 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 8 at the Denver Mart, I-25 and 58th Avenue. Parking is free.
Admission is $10 for adults. Children younger than 12, Boy and Girl Scouts in uniform and active military personnel with ID are admitted free. Tickets are available online at www.RockyMountainTrainShow.com. Tickets also are available at the door.
