Beer-drinking bluegrass fans rejoice!
The UllrGrass Music and Beer Festival returns to Parfet Park in downtown Golden this year, Jan. 28-30.
Named to honor Ullr (Ooler), the Norse god of winter, the Viking-themed outdoor event promises a diverse lineup of bluegrass, newgrass, funk and jam band artists.
This year’s musical lineup includes Coral Creek, Rapidgrass, Chain Station, The Hillbenders, Funky Freiya featuring Sheryl Renee of the Black Swan Singers, Thunder and Rain, Adam Kinghorn Quartet, Ms. Amy & the Jet Set, Uptown Toodeloo, The Wrecklunds, Hunker Down, Morsel, Big Hooray Bluegrass and more.
The three-day festival is the creation of Golden residents Chris and Susannah Thompson, who felt the city needed a signature winter event.
“UllrGrass is a labor of love built for the community and powered by the community,” said Susannah Thompson. “There is nothing more exciting than seeing people laughing and dancing in the park in January — donning horns, smiles and faux fur.”
Festival-goers are encouraged to come in their best Viking regalia and celebrate the arrival of winter with live music, dancing, costumes, family activities, food and fine craft beer.
Event co-founder Chris Thompson said UllrGrass is homegrown in Golden. He says the event spotlights the local craft brew community and the vibrant music scene.
UllrGrass is a volunteer-powered non-profit event benefitting the Kids Music Project by Coral Creek, which delivers music education and performance to kids in Colorado
