Storm prompts school districts to close, caution urged for motorists

The second round of major snowfall this week prompted many Denver metro area school districts to close on Feb. 7 and left motorists faced with dicey and icy commutes.

School districts to close for the day include Denver Public Schools, Jeffco Public Schools, Littleton Public Schools, the Douglas County School District and the Cherry Creek School District.

The City of Arvada will also close all of its offices at 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies were on accident alert throughout the metro area.

By mid-morning, many metro-area communities had seen more than 6 inches of snowfall — some significantly more — since the storm began the night of Feb. 6, according to the National Weather Service. Some mountain areas were expected to get more than 2 feet of snow.
