Now that Summer has officially arrived and you’ve calmed your dogs down after the fireworks on the Fourth of July (my Husky dog Dakota is such a big baby about loud noises, he’s worse than my St. Bernard Christy was) it’s time to jump into some of the events we have happening in Golden for the rest of the summer.

Speaking of dogs, if you need to get shots or licenses for yours, the Foothills Animal Shelter at 580 McIntyre street in Golden will be running one of it’s Vaccine, License and Microchip Clinics this Friday, July 8, 4-5:30 p.m. It’s a great time to get it all done in one place at a reasonable price. You can get your cat vaccinated there too.

The shots run $15 for Rabies, $20 for Distemper/Panleukopenia (cats) Parvo (dogs) with Bordetella and CIV shots for dogs running $20 each. You can get them micro-chipped for $35 and licenses run $20.

Keep in mind that licenses are required for all dogs over 4 months old in Jefferson County and it requires a Rabies vaccination to get one.

It’s best to bring your pet’s vaccination records with you.

They run these every Friday, so if you miss this one, catch the next one. For more information go to www.foothillsanimalshelter.org or give them a call at (303) 278-7575.

The Magical History Tour: A Tribute to the Beatles

The Golden Gate Grange, located just up Golden Gate Canyon a bit, is going to be hosting a live concert by Captain Quirk & Friends who will be performing a selection of famous Beatles tunes as a fund raiser for the Grange’s renovation projects.

It’s happening on Saturday, July 9 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. but they will be serving food from 12:30 p.m. on as well so it’s going to be a festive day up there.

They are asking for a $10 donation to attend. The Golden Gate Grange is located at 25201 Golden Gate Canyon Road just 4 miles west of Route 93 in Golden.

Ladies, start your engines!

That’s right, it’s Ladies Day at the Colorado State Patrol Track located here in Golden.

It’s time to unleash your inner “Danica Patrick” and find out what it’s like to drive on a race track. The Colorado State Patrol will be running this low pressure, high excitement, high performance Drivers Education Track event for ladies only.

It’s happening on Sunday, July 10 with registration starting at 7 a.m. and a mandatory driver’s meeting at 8 a.m.. The cost is $95 for the workshop which includes lunch and a commemorative tank top.

You drive your own car and it’s an opportunity to experience what it’s like to drive on a race track in a very controlled environment with other women just like you. They will be running a separate faster group for more experienced drivers as well as the one going over the basics.

The track is located on South Table Mountain and you can get more information about the event by calling the Colorado State Patrol Headquarters at (303) 239-4500. Vroom, vroom!
