While Golden's annual Arts Week lasts just eight days, at least one remnant of the event will be sticking around permanently.
On Friday, artists Charlotte Bassin and Karlee Mariel could be seen putting the finishing touches on a massive colorful new mural on the wall at the corner of 19th Street and Washington Avenue.
Bassin said the mural, funded by the Golden Public Arts Commission and Foothills Art Center, was inspired by her frequent hikes in the trails near her home on the west side of Golden.
“These are a bunch of the wildflowers I see in the spring when they are in bloom,” she said. “I photographed them and then just made them all super graphic.”
Bassin said working on the mural had been a blast and she has particularly enjoyed the approving honks she has received from residents.
“It's exciting to me to hike around and bring the nature and the hills down to the town and bring nature and joy to the community,” she said.
But the project, which took the pair about three days to complete wasn't easy, particularly with temperatures reaching 100 degrees on Friday.
“Ugh, it's a challenge for sure,” said Mariel. “We are trying to finish it in this window when we are in the shade.”
